Make your own Shower Steamer
Learn to make your own Shower Steamer! What is a shower steamer you ask? "Shower Steamers are a great way to add a variety of fragrances to your shower for a little aromatherapy. Place the steamer on the floor of the shower opposite the shower head so that the steam and shower mist gently hits it." -Rustic Escentuals Crafting Library We found a fun recipe for how to make them on a blog and wanted to share it with you. So get your creative juices flowing and read below for the how tos: Supplies and equipment needed: Large Mixing Bowl Measuring Container Rubber gloves Sifter or sieve Witch Haze Disposable pipette Large Bath Bomb Mold (4 cavities) Citric Acid (1 cup) Baking Soda (2 cups) Body Safe Fragrance Oil .15 cc scoop Step 1: Taking the Baking Soda, measure out two cups and pour through the sifter (or sieve) into a large mixing bowl. Note: This is an important step – you want the dry ingredients as clump-free as possible before beginning to add any wet materials. Step 2: Taking the Citric Acid, measure out one cup and pour through the sifter into your mixing bowl. Step 3: Because a shower steamer is not a leave-on product we can add more fragrance than we would with a leave on product. Using a pipette, add 4 – 5 ml of Fragrance Oil one drop at a time. Randomly drop 5 or 6 drops at a time in different spots and then mix very well with your hands. Continue to add drops in this manner until you are finished. If you add it all at one time, the mixture will start fizzing up on you and you don’t want that. Step 4: Now is the time for you to add the witch hazel. The witch hazel must be added to a mister or spray bottle because pouring it directly onto the mixture will cause it to – well – fizz up! Spritz the mixture 3 – 5 spritzes at a time. It is important that you not spritz in only one section. Using your hands, mix briskly together, removing any clumps that have formed as you go. Step 5: Test your mixture after each set of spritzes and mixing. If it doesn’t hold together it’s not ready. If it holds together like a clump of wet sand then it’s ready. Don’t be impatient here; just keep spritzing and mixing till it’s ready. Step 6: Take some of the mixture and press it firmly into the mold. Make sure you press it firmly as you don’t want any gaps to show in the finished products. As you work with it, you will notice that it forms to the mold easily. After you have completed 4 of the Shower Steamers you can go back and press on one side and they will slide out perfectly. Set to the side and make more. Note: This mixture will make 8 Shower Steamers using the Large Bath Bomb mold. Step 7: Set the Shower Steamers to the side to completely dry for about 24 hours. When completely hardened you can wrap them in wax paper or cling wrap or store them in an airtight container. For pictures to go with each of the steps go to Rustic Escentuals Crafting Library.
